How much of the week each day eats
Almost nobody does both. They eat the same slot in a holiday — one sea day, one early alarm — and they ask completely different things of it. So the first question is not which is prettier. It is how much of your week you are willing to spend on water. If you have five days and a list that also includes the old town, the market and a lie-in, the local day is the honest choice. What eleven hours actually costs you in time
Suluada is eleven hours door to door and the record is upfront about why: it is a longer route than a standard Side boat trip, so expect an early pickup and a full day out. Your exact collection time is confirmed after you book, because it depends on where your hotel sits.
Three details change how the day feels. The boat anchors just off the island and small tender boats shuttle guests ashore. There is no shop on the island, so whatever you need travels with you from the hotel. And the record sets a minimum age of six, while noting that younger children are welcome free of charge with supervision on deck — if that applies to you, ask us before you book rather than after.
Long stops in clear water are what you get for it, far enough from the resort coast to look different from the bays you can already see. What the seven-hour day gives you instead
The local day is sociable in a way the island day is not. Live music starts early, a foam party takes over the deck, lunch is served on board without anyone hurrying you, and there are several swim and snorkel stops in Side's bays. The route may shift with the sea and the weather, which is normal and worth expecting.
There is a middle option people miss. The Side island boat tour runs eight hours for €24, adds unlimited soft drinks and a hot lunch with a vegetarian option, and swims at Kızılot and Boğaz — one extra hour rather than four. The money and the time budget
Adults pay €20 on the Side boat tour, €24 on the island day along the same coast, and €43 for Suluada; children aged 4-10 pay €14 and €30 on the two ends of that range, and infants aged 0-3 travel free. Hotel pickup is in the price on all three, and lunch is on board on all three, so the extra is genuinely buying distance and time rather than inclusions.
Which is why the decision is easier than it looks. More than double the price and four more hours buys one thing: water clear enough to justify the alarm. If that is what you came for, nothing on the local coast substitutes for it. If it is not, the local day gives you the same swim, lunch and sun at a third of the cost and hands your evening back.
